RSS feeds

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:24 pm by kbartosz

I had forgotten how easy to use RSS feeds were. I used to use Pluck and never got around to finding a new service when it discontinued/died. They’ve become even easier to use. The only “problem” is subscribing to more blogs than time allows.

From this week’s readings what I found most of interest is using the RSS to alert people of new items in the collection. We have links on our homepage, but students don’t seem to find it. This would also be a service that I think faculty will appreciate and I plan to bring this up to my co-workers.

a first

Hello everyone!  I’m Kim Bartosz and despite being addicted to many blogs (on a wide variety of topics) this post is my first.  I’ve lived my entire professional life in libraries, having started as a page in a public library children’s department at the age of 15.  Currently I’m the Reference Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, but have also worked as a children’s librarian at a public library in Connecticut, a cataloger of technical reports at a special library in Illinois, and have worked as a reference librarian and as a cataloger in academic libraries in Connecticut.

What I’m looking forward to most from this class are finding ways to reach out to our students and community users.  Not only to find out what their needs are but to also find a way to market the services and materials we offer now and to learn what we should add.
